Let’s connect…
Networking, grrrr.
It sounds so, well, corporate! When really, you’re anything but! Even if you’ve worked in corporate before, you’d much prefer to meet people in a less formal, salesy, swing your egos (and other things!) around kind of way!
I got you!
Been there, hated that… never to go there again.
Experiencing things such as:
Being told I was missing 50% of my target market with aiming at women only, followed by me swiftly announcing that I was in fact going for 100% of my target market as I only wanted to work with women (for safety reasons as much as anything else with visiting homes in my Personal Training business).
Having to sit and listen to guest speakers bore me to tears, my ADHD brain not allowing me to fully focus resulting in me masking, smiling and trying to look interested anyway… with no meaningful connections made whatsoever!
Being the guest speaker myself, and getting nothing in return… soon realising I was in a room that had zero to a low chance of having ideal clients in, leading to resentment that I’d given my time for free.
Attended business events which were in your face, loud, and so high energy (yet without substance) that I needed more days to recover than I did to attend!
Going all the way to London for an exclusive high ticket event with an established, well known coach… only to be sold at for the full 4 hours, with such high level FOMO- complete with clipboards to enter card details and the invitation to join them in the other room for lunch if I signed up- that I almost signed up! Something I may well have regretted for the rest of my days ha.
Not forgetting the one I’m certain you’ll have experienced at most networking events…
Going round in a circle, waiting your turn, rehearsing what you’re going to say over and over, not paying any attention to what anyone else was saying (way to go of connecting!)… only to stumble over your words, speak too fast, slowly dying inside whilst you show yourself in the exact opposite light of who you really are and the energy you give.
Hmmm, networking and business events as a brilliant way to get known you say??
Ready to work ON your business instead of in it, with a heap of strategy and a dash of soul (oh and food, food is always good for the soul!)?
Then grab your diary, block out the day, and see you there?*
